Nålbinding is a globally endangered, ancient fiber technique that predates knitting and crochet by thousands of years. It involves creating interconnected loops on the thumb with a single needle and lengths of wool roving or yarn. Students in this beginner course will be taught the Oslo stitch and begin making a pouch or bowl. No previous fiber experience needed and all supplies are provided.
Allergen note - this class utilizes animal fibers (wool)
Accessibility note - hand dexterity and basic grip strength are required for this technique

Samantha Herrington is a Kansas City fiber artist specializing in historical textile skills. Her mission is to foster an appreciation for historically informed, slow fashion by providing hands-on education and empowering her community to connect with the timeless traditions of spinning, weaving, and other historical textile techniques. She uses experimental archaeology methods to explore textile history through recreating extant items and growing her own dye plants and flax. Classes require a minimum of 3 students. An emailed notification of cancellation will be sent two days before the class if the minimum is not met. In case of the shop cancellation, all registered students will be refunded the class fee. Student cancellations or no-shows can not be refunded.
